Project Management Principles and Practices Specialization by UCI (Coursera)
This Project Management specialization offered by University of California, Irvine is a precursor to their Project Management Professional Certificate program. It is a series of 4 comprehensive, hands-on courses that provide a handle on Project management essentials enabling learners to effectively manage work projects. It teaches the most effective methods of delivering projects within cost, time, and resource constraints while ensuring that the end-user gets the product they expect.
Through the course of the specialization learners get to work on several projects and assignments that give them the required working knowledge of basics of project management and opportunity to put it in into practice. They gain skills like:
- Identify and define a project’s scope
- Identify project stakeholders and their information needs
- Identify the resource needs of the project
- Create a work breakdown schedule
- Create a budget for the project
- Build a project schedule with milestones identified clearly
- Identify project risks and define responses for those risks
- Identify and analyze changes to project scope
- Create a communications management plan
- Understand the project procurement process
- Manage the project development
Learners who complete the specialization receive 35 contact hours to meet the PMI’s educational hours requirement for taking the PMP exam. Additionally they qualify for 35 PDUs.
